The Canadian Government has recently put forward
a proposal to radically change the direction of Canadian Agriculture.
They refer to it as the
Canada First" program, and
include it in their Agricultural Policy Framework which is said to be
a Federal-Provincial Initiative.
This development will have a major impact on how
we see Candian agriculture and how it happens in the future.
I am including the Background
page information from the Federal Government Site,
and will provide links to the five key documents that outline the Agricultual
Policy Framework (APF). in the following box. These are just text versions.
The original or PDF versions can be found on the Government site page.
I am duplicating them here in case the site page is removed or changed.
On Sept 9, 2002, the AgCanada site posted a news release on Manitoba
signing on to the agreement, leaving only Saskatchewan and Quebec as
hold-outs. About the same time the Sask Ag Minister indicated that Saskatchewan
would also likely sign on in a short while. The news release does feature
a GOOD SUMMARY OF THE APF
that is useful for those who have limited reading time.
This is a MUST READ for anyone concerned about the
environment and the future of Candian food production.
